Annual report 2019

PLACE FOUNDATION
Am Obstgarten 7, D-82205 Gilching

The foundation's board of directors evaluated suitable projects in accordance with the rules of procedure (stipulated 10.10.2019) and worked on or supported the following projects in the 2019 financial year:

Project 1: Newborn hearing screening
Newborn hearing screening and therapy in Kyrgyzstan together with the Lehnhardt Foundation in Auggen (see also Place/Lehnhardt Foundation agreement)

The Lehnhardt Foundation in Auggen has been supporting hard of hearing / deaf children for years, especially in Ex-USSR countries, with the delivery / operation of cochlear implants. The PLACE Foundation supports this project with expertise in hearing screening, equipment procurement and donation of money.

Hearing screening & diagnosis, situation in Bishkek 2018/2019:

In Kyrgyzstan, donations from the Turkish government (TICA) a first Hearing screening project started in some maternity clinics (3). However, the maternity clinics mentioned do not have a pediatric ENT diagnostic capacity.
Such a diagnostic department is essential as the number of 'false-positive' results might be up to
3-4%. The incidence rate of children with major confirmed hearing loss in Europe is typically 0.1-0.2%. For this reason, the children classified as “suspicious” during the screening must be given a pediatric diagnosis as quickly as possible, so that the children who are really affected can be diagnosed as soon as possible and therapy can start in time
One of the goals of the PLACE Foundation for 2019 is / was to equip and advise the ENT department of the leading maternity hospital in the capital Bishkek with suitable devices and diagnostic aids.

Following the advice of the PLACE Foundation, two suitable ABR screening / diagnostic devices were obtained from Monsana AG / Lehnhardt Foundation through Mack / Pfaffenhofen and then delivered to the clinic in Kyrgyzstan by Monsana AG (CH) .

The PLACE Foundation contributed 50% to this scope of delivery.

The device training took place free of charge and online via the Ing. Büro Zoth.
PLACE contribution: € 4,434.75

This project will be continued in the coming years and together with Lehnhardt
Foundation will apply for funding from the Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) in 2020.

of hard of hearing / deaf children in Palestine. (Aftaluna Society for Deaf Children).
